How Much Do You Charge?” — Why That’s the Wrong First Question

Contractors don’t quote jobs blindly—neither should marketers. Here’s why “How much do you charge?” is the wrong first question to ask.

When a contractor messages me, “How much do you charge for marketing?” and I say, “It depends” — I’m not dodging the question. I just need more info before I throw out a number that will be useless to you. ⁣

It’s like when a homeowner messages you, “How much for a new roof?” or “What’s a deck cost?” or “How much do you charge for kitchen remodels?” ⁣

Uhhh… if you just need a repair, could be as low as $500. Could be $10k. Could be $100k. Or anywhere in between, or even more. ⁣

Could be that you’re not even the right contractor to help them in the first place!⁣

Same with us. Our services range from $500/month to $6k+ per month. And there are some contractors that we aren’t a good fit to help. ⁣

Until I know your goals, challenges, and whether we’re even a fit… tossing out a price would just waste your time. ⁣

So if a marketer says, “It depends” when you ask them “How much do you charge?” just know that we’re not dodging the question in order to lure you onto Zoom to trap you in our sales dungeon.⁣

We’re just trying to avoid giving you meaningless information.⁣

Kind of like how you (hopefully) don’t quote a whole backyard transformation or kitchen remodel over FB Messenger. ⁣

Hope that clears things up 😎

If you’re looking for help with ads, sales systems, or installing more predictable processes in your business—we might be a fit.

But like you, we don’t quote work blindly. We need to understand your goals, current bottlenecks, and whether our systems align with the way you want to grow.

Think of it like a consult before the proposal.

Shoot us a message here. If we can help, we’ll show you how. And if not—we’ll point you to someone who can.
